The Adirondacks doesn’t come to mind to many when thinking about NY, but the fact is there is a huge park that takes up a good part of upstate NY. Its legitimate wilderness, and there is mountain climbing to be had. I will have it.

The Adirondack Forty-Sixers Inc. is a membership organization which recognizes those who have climbed the 46 High Peaks in the Adirondack Mountains. Robert and George Marshall, along with their friend and guide Herbert Clark, identified 46 mountains in northern New York State with an elevation of 4,000 feet or higher. They were the first to ascend all 46 peaks, which they did between 1918 and 1925.

A group of us go on an annual camping trip to scale each of the high peaks and eventually earn our way into the Adirondack 46′er club.  We have 5 years under our belts, so far.

2010 Canoeing Racquett River
2011 Dix

There’s quite a bit left on the list.
